Kindly note that we have lost WACS and ACE international capacity due to suspected shunt fault or fiber cut. In addition, SEACOM remains down. Some of our international traffic will experience higher latency and possible packet loss due to congestion on alternative EASSY and EQUIANO paths.
Web sQuad's transit paths are all operating at 100% without losses.
In addition, various locally peered cloud networks, eg. EA, Cloudflare and a few others are currently partly/entirely isolated and de-peered or limited peering. Certain services will experience increased latencies and possibly slower performance as a result.

We are aware of an ongoing issue affecting Google Services, specifically Youtube. This has resulted in a degraded user experience on Mobile and desktop for some Youtube videos (buffering and slow loading content).
We have investigated this issue and it seems to be related to Google transit issues due to reduced capacity on Google's Johannesburg network. Content from Web sQuad's Google cache servers is unaffected. This issue is affecting all local Google peers (networks who peer with Google in South Africa).
We are closely monitoring the situation and our engineers (as well as multiple other networks) have escalated the issue to Google's network team for further investigation. Google have confirmed they are currently investigating the issue, but have not provided any updates in this regard.

Confirmed Break: Submarine Cable Break on WACS. Ship en route to location of break.
ETR: 4 April 2020.
We have received reports of a Cable Break on WACS. This break has been localised to a portion of the cable system between Portugal and the UK.
Teams are currently diagnosing where the break is and whether it is terrestrial or submarine.
West coast routes services are affected by this break. This means you will experience slightly elevated latencies to International destinations. We have sufficient capacity on other cable systems, so we do not expect any degradation in services.
Updates to follow as we receive them.
Update 10:57: WACS Outage: The cut is on the cable belonging to TATA and is between Highbridge (UK) and Seixal (Portugal). There is no recent update on this matter further to the one above. So we're still waiting to find out if it's submarine or terrestrial and an ETR
Update 15:30: TATA is busy making arrangements for a cable repair vessel to attend to the sub-sea fault btw UK and Portugal. Once the vessel is loaded, it will take approx 3 days to reach site. We don't have any anticipate repair date at this point, but will share once obtained.
Update 19:00: Submarine Cable repair vessel Ile D'Aix is loaded with supplies and en route to the location of the cable break. ETA to location of break is 31 March 2020, 09:00 UTC. ETR to fix is between 31 March 2020 and 04 April 2020.

Major submarine cable system outages have resulted in degraded international internet performance as well as increased latency to all international destinations.
WACS and SAT3 cable systems are confirmed to have major service affecting faults. WACS have confirmed that their outage is between Cameroon and the DRC.
Please be patient during this time, we do not have an ETA on the submarine cable fixes. Latency will remain high throughout the repair window.

Vumatel are experiencing longer than usual delays allocating IP addresses to clients. This is due to the scale of today’s load shedding resulting in tens of thousands of homes requesting IPs at once. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

We have completed our Bryanston node commissioning successfully. However, the process of clients obtaining new IP addresses is running slower than expected. Around 60% of all affected clients have new IP addresses and will be receiving service. DHCP requests are being processed continuously and we expect the process to be completed within the next three hours. We cannot force requests for particular clients; IP addresses will be allocated when the DHCP request is processed through the queue.
