POINT OF IMPACT: SEACOM, WACS and ACE Undersea Cable Systems

REASON: Cable failure

STATUS: Repairs Underway

Kindly note that we have lost WACS and ACE international capacity due to suspected shunt fault or fiber cut. In addition, SEACOM remains down. Some of our international traffic will experience higher latency and possible packet loss due to congestion on alternative EASSY and EQUIANO paths.

Web sQuad's transit paths are all operating at 100% without losses.

In addition, various locally peered cloud networks, eg. EA, Cloudflare and a few others are currently partly/entirely isolated and de-peered or limited peering. Certain services will experience increased latencies and possibly slower performance as a result.

The backhaul vendor supplying WeFNO estates in Kraaifontein is experiencing a fault on their redundant path. The primary route is down due to a fault, and traffic is running over a backup path. However this backup path is experiencing issues too.

WeFNO are following up with the backhaul vendor.

We don't have an ETR at this point.

We are aware of an ongoing issue affecting Google Services, specifically Youtube. This has resulted in a degraded user experience on Mobile and desktop for some Youtube videos (buffering and slow loading content).

We have investigated this issue and it seems to be related to Google transit issues due to reduced capacity on Google's Johannesburg network. Content from Web sQuad's Google cache servers is unaffected. This issue is affecting all local Google peers (networks who peer with Google in South Africa).

We are closely monitoring the situation and our engineers (as well as multiple other networks) have escalated the issue to Google's network team for further investigation. Google have confirmed they are currently investigating the issue, but have not provided any updates in this regard.

Scope of Work:
Web sQuad Engineers will be upgrading the firmware on the core devices in the Johannesburg Data Centres.  Clients will experience intermittent connectivity during this time as this will require rebooting of the core network devices.

Activity Window:
Planned Event Start time: 01:00 / 4th November 2021
Planned Event End time: 02:00 / 4th November 2021

Back out Plan:
A tested and working spare device will be available to replace any device that breaks whilst its firmware is being upgraded. Engineers will restore the backed-up configuration to the spare unit and swap it with the broken device.

During this time customers may experience intermittent connectivity, packet loss and high latency.
